We spoke with Mr. and Mrs. Yamaguchi, who frequently visit our brewery to buy mead, about "The Last Supper."
They shared their wonderful story of how they discovered mead.

Discovering ANTELOPE

"I was looking for gifts for wedding celebrations and presents for friends. I saw it introduced on a friend's Instagram, looked it up, and was surprised to find it was right here in Shiga. At first, it looked so intimidating that I actually wondered if I was in the right place, but once I went inside, it was surprisingly friendly and fun."

That’s what Mr. and Mrs. Yamaguchi told us when they invited us into their lovely home, which doubles as their workshop.

As furniture makers by trade, the Yamaguchi home is filled with their own handcrafted pieces, and everything was truly beautiful.

Their journey with ANTELOPE began while shopping for a gift in Shiga. The second time they visited was the day after our mochi-pounding event, and since we had a lot of mochi left over, we shared plenty with them. Since then, they’ve been attending our brewery events and stopping by to pick up mead as gifts.

How to Enjoy The Last Supper

"The great thing about mead is that while it doesn't feel as formal as opening a bottle of wine, it’s still perfect for celebrations or parties. 'The Last Supper' isn't too sweet, so it pairs well with food, which we really appreciate. Recently, we enjoyed it with some okonomiyaki loaded with nagaimo yam."

The two of them love cooking for themselves. They are very particular about the tools they use, leaving those of us who eat cup noodles for lunch feeling quite humbled. The Last Supper truly shines at the dinner table—where will the alien on its label head next for a meal?

Hopes for ANTELOPE

"We’d love for this to be a space where workshops are held and people of all kinds gather and mingle. Also, we’d love it if you made the large bottles you used to carry sometimes—500ml disappears too quickly."

The champagne bottles we originally used became difficult to supply consistently due to glass shortages. We had stuck with 750ml bottles because we wanted to create drinks for sharing rather than solo drinking, but as times changed, we shifted to more convenient 500ml bottles. While we can't produce enough to sell on a large scale, we have decided to make 750ml bottles available exclusively for brewery sales.

Thank you very much, Mr. and Mrs. Yamaguchi.
